- Under the direct supervision of a qualified operator, maneuver the vessel in a safe, disciplined, prudent, and orderly manner,
- Maintain unity, good order, and discipline among the crew,
- Familiarizing him/her self with the responsibilities, authority and duties of the permanent deckhand and captain,
- Rapidly acquiring expertise in company policies and procedures,
- Ensuring that company policies and procedures are followed,
- Actively participating in drills, training, company meetings and on board safety evolutions, and enhancing the safety and security posture of the vessel,
- Assisting in vessel orientation for new crewmembers,
- Reporting deficiencies in the vessel or crew to the master,
- Maintaining a professional attitude during operations and whenever dealing with pilots, external partners, and company personnel,
- Other appropriate tasks and duties as may be assigned from time to time by company officials or the captain.

- Good understanding of boat seamanship and maintenance, as developed through the acquisition of at least 360 days of sea-time on a commercial vessel of at least 50 gross tons.
- Desired minimum credential of OS/Wiper. Prefer National Able Bodied Seaman-Limited or higher and experience on motor vessels on Inland or Near Coastal routes.
- High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)
- TWIC card and driver’s license required, plus reliable transportation in the states of Louisiana and Texas,
- Must reside in vicinity of Galveston, TX, or be willing and able to relocate as necessary at own expense.
- Worker will exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently and up to 20 pounds of force constantly.
- Requires hearing, talking, grasping quickly, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, crawling and swimming.
- Worker is required to have the ability to see details at a distance and depth perception to judge which of several objects is closer or farther away, or to judge the distance between him/her and an object. Must have normal color vision.
- The worker is subject to environmental conditions with no protection from weather.
- The worker is subject to noise, vibration, hazards, and is frequently in close quarters and small enclosed area and is required to function in small vessels.

GALTEX Pilots Service Corporation
GALTEX Pilots Services Corporation provides the administration and operations support services for the sixteen federally-licensed and State Commissioned Branch Pilots of Galveston County who serve the Ports of Galveston and Texas City. These services include but are not limited Dispatching, Billing, Accounting, as well as Pilot Boat operation and maintenance. The Pilots are responsible for the safe navigation of vessels in and out of the Ports as required by federal and state laws. These laws currently require that all foreign flagged vessels, U.S. Flag vessels coming from foreign ports, and U.S. Flag vessels greater than 10,000 gross tons employ the services of a state Pilot.
The Dispatching function consists of receiving orders for Pilot services from Ship Agents/Vessel Masters and the subsequent dispatch of Pilots to said vessels. The Pilot Boat function consists of the operation and maintenance of the company owned pilot boats which are used for transporting the Pilots to and from the vessels they service. The administration function consists of but is not limited to the management of the service corps, billing for pilot services, accounting function for the service corporation, as well as overseeing the maintenance of service corporation assets.
