Company Overview:  The Galveston Texas City Pilots Association is charged by the Governor of Texas with overseeing the safe and efficient movement of foreign flag and registered vessels into and out of the ports of Galveston County.  By maintaining vessel readiness, the Pilot Boat Superintendent fulfills a critical role in the success of the company’s operation.


Position Summary: The Galveston-Texas City Pilots are seeking a qualified and experienced Pilot Boat Superintendent to manage the maintenance, operation, and mechanical reliability of our three pilot boats based in Galveston, TX. This is a hands-on position responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the fleet through timely maintenance, repairs, and support of day-to-day operations.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Oversee and perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical, propulsion, electrical, hydraulic, and auxiliary systems on all three pilot boats.
  • Develop and manage preventative maintenance schedules to ensure operational readiness.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of engine hours, maintenance activity, and equipment repairs.
  • Coordinate and supervise all dry dockings, haul-outs, and major projects.
  • Serve as point of contact with shipyards, contractors, and equipment suppliers.
  • Monitor parts inventory, order supplies, and manage equipment procurement.
  • Be available for after-hours mechanical issues or emergencies.
  • Provide support and guidance to vessel crews regarding equipment use, maintenance practices, and safety awareness.


 Qualifications:


  •  Minimum 10 years of hands-on marine engineering experience, preferably with small commercial or pilot boats.
  • Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and marine propulsion.
  • U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential preferred (DDE Unlimited or comparable experience).
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Valid TWIC and driver’s license required.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and respond quickly to operational needs.


Physical Requirements:


  • Must be able to pass U.S. Coast Guard physical examination.
